First year students in the college of architecture and engineering (CAE) started reporting on Monday 14th 2015. The students will undergo a week of orientation which will be mainly based within their schools and departments.
The Ag. Principal met the incoming members of the college ICT team on 25th August 2015. He welcomed the new team and expressed a desire to work with them to improve service delivery to the college. They discussed the various issues affecting the college website and networks. The meeting was also used to discuss ideas on how to improve the college performance in Webometric ranking.

The 2nd ASI-SAPIENZA meeting with Kenyan universities that was hosted by the School of Engineering was held on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at the University of Nairobi, Central Catering Unit.
The 2nd ASI-SAPIENZA meeting with Kenyan universities will be hosted by the School of Engineering UoN at the Central Catering Unit on the Main Campus on Tuesday, 26th January, 2016. The workshop hopes to bring together 60-70 participants representing the Italian Space Agency (ASI), University of Rome, La Sapienza and Kenyan universities to discuss the research program funded by ASI in the framework of the ASI-Sapienza Agreement for research Activities at the Broglio Space Centre in Malindi.

Prof. Patts Odira, Dean School of Engineering, visited Kanazawa University, Japan (1 – 8 March 2014) to discuss opportunities for opening collaboration between the College of Science and Engineering and the School of Engineering, University of Nairobi. Kanazawa University has an active MOU with the College of Health Sciences, UON.

The students and staff managed to contain it with 30 minutes with immediate responce from Nairobi county fire engine. Those affected by fire were immediately take to university health center by Ambulance.

Yuuki broke his leg (femur) in Engineering Student Association Tournament. Prof Mbuthia gave word of encouragement and prayers.

Dr. S.W Mumenya, is the current chairperson at the Civil and Construction Engineering Department. She took over the department’s mantle in 2014 and has big plans that are in line with their mission, which is to educate individuals to become the leaders in their profession.
The University of Nairobi Family was delighted to inaugurate Prof. Peter M.F. Mbithi as the seventh (7) Vice - Chancellor on 14 Jan. 2015. Meet out going fifth year student, Mr. Mwangi Anthony who now owns a company, K-Technics, that Provides Firmware Design and programming in C, and C++ languages and selling of electronic equipment that are used to design academic projects.
The College of Architecture and Engineering Website team, held a sensitization workshop on 16th June 2015, at the Civil Engineering Computer labs. The workshop, which also included practical sessions, was meant to sensitize the team on ways of improving the College's web rankings.

Research and development regarding the feasibility of a locally developed Kenya laptop per child solution continues as Nobeah signs a Memorandum of Understanding with University of Nairobi to create internships for the bright young Kenyan engineers who may turn the promise of a thriving industry into reality. This was presided by Chairman of the Department Prof. Ouma.
As a matter of social responsibility, E.I.E 2014/2015 fifth year students visited Good Samaritan Children's home in Kayole, Nairobi to donate food staff and clothings.
The students organised on their own and the requested the college for the transport throught the department.
2015/2016 First year students were being taken through orientation by CAE management team.
This is one way in which the new students are being incoporated into the university family. It was a day they itteracted by both the academic members of staff, administrative staff and the student union officials.

School of Engineering, University of Nairobi hosted the celebration of African Engineering week on 4th September, 2014. The function was sponsored by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Ministry of Education and Technology, Universiy of Nairobi and National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI).
On 8th August, 2014, University of Nairobi Chancellor, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi (Mrs) acompanied by chairman of council Dr. Idle Omar Farah, Vice Chancellor, Prof. George A.O. Magoha and all the top university managers and academic members of staff from the College of Architecture and Engineering.

The chairman, EBE met with Rachel Peletz and Emily Kumpel representatives from Aquaya Institute. The meeting held on 17th May 2016 aimed at discussing possible collaborations between the department and the Institute.

Environmental and Biosystems Engineering Students Association (EBESA) held their Annual Open Day on 2nd April 2016 at Upper Kabete sports complex. There were several sports activity lined up for the day.
These included semifinals in football, short races, egg race, eating competition and indoor games such as scrabble, checkers and chess.
The dean School of Engineering, Prof. Mbuthia Jackson M. paid a courtesy call to the department of EBE office, Upper Kabete on 20th April 2016. The purpose was familiarization of the infratructures, buildings and other parts of the department.
Environmental and Biosystems Engineering 4th year students had the mechanical design presentation on 5th April 2016.
The design project involves a study of the application of the general principles, empiricism of mechanics of solids to the creative design of mechanical equipment, product development, management and economics. This unit is examinable by coursework
The department of Environmental and Biosystems Engineering organized Engineering Design Project Final Presentations for the 5th year students 2015/ 2016. The presentations were held on 31st March 2016 at the department’s Upper Kabete premises.
SEFA an NGO is working in three (3) counties namely; Kilifi, Kitui and Kakamega in promoting food crops namely; Casavva, Sorghum, greengram and also in bee keeping. Their interest is collaboration in the areas of Bio-char and Conservation Agriculture (CA).
The chairman, EBE and the Ag. Director Dr. Noah Wawire - Agricultural Mechanization Research Institute (AMRI) met on Thursday 17th March, 2016. The purpose was to discuss the possibilty of the department to collaborate with AMRI to establish the status of Agricultural Mechanization in the country.

The Environmental and Biosystems Engineering Students Association (EBESA) committe organized an academic excursion trip for the EBE students students to Aberdares National Park on 19th March, 2016. The aim of the trip was to give the students a practical exposure to the processes of the earth formation.
Eng Charles Mutunga, a consulting with GIBB International consulting engineers gave a lecture to our 4th year students on Friday 4th March 2016 on “The Procurement of Irrigation projects (services)” at Upper Kabete. This was among the lecture series for the unit FEB422: Professional Practice.
The chairman and other member of staff met with Assistant Professor in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at Purdue University on 3rd March, 2016.
The chairman, on his introduction made a brief presentation on the history of the department, the core thematic areas and the research projects that the department has involved in and the ongoing projects.
The University of Nairobi, College of Architecture and Engineering students and staff representatives joined Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) in the commissioning of Thange River Clean Up exercise which took place at Thange Primary School on 1st March, 2016.

EBESA in coordination with the department organized for a visit to Rehema children’s home on Saturday 6th 2016 as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The students arrived at 11.00 a.m. The children at the home aged from 14 months to teenager.

The Energy – Agro-Food Synergies in Africa (EDULINK II) Stakeholders Half – Day Workshop Meeting that was hosted by the University of Nairobi was held on February 5, 2016 at the University of Nairobi, Institute of Nuclear Science & Technology Conference Room.
The Department of Environmental and Biosystems Engineering technical staff held a meeting on 11th January, 2016 at upper Kabete. It was presided by the Principal Technologist Mr. J. O. Orodi. The meeting discussed on the preparation of 3rd year fourth term timetable that is to include both FEB 240: Workshop Practices & FEB 340: Engineering practices.
The Department of Environmental and Biosystems Engineering 3rd, 4th and 5th year students met with students from University of Massachusetts Amherst, USA for an interactive session on 14th January, 2016. The guest students were welcomed by the Mr. A. K. Inima.
The University wishes to request the students who graduated from the Department of Environmental and Biosystems Engineering from 2004/2005 to 2014/2015 to liaise with the University through the Department for registration of a course to enable them be registered with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) as Graduate Engineers. The registration of the course commences on 11th to 15th January, 2016.

Environmental and Biosystems Engineering Students Association (EBESA) in collaboration with the EBE, organised a career talk on 6th November, 2015 in Upper Kabete (VetLab 4 lecture theater). A Makerspace is a community centre that provides technology, manufacturing equipment and educational opportunities to the public. Makerspaces, hackerspaces or fablabs are creative, Do It Yourself (DIY) spaces where people can gather to create, invent, and learn. They often have 3D printers, software, and tools etc. for fabrication work.
The chairman and academic member of staff met all students in the department on 30th Septmber 2015. The first year students were welcomed by all staff and EBESA chair gave a brief about the process of where they have come from in accreditation of the program.

The Technical Staff held their meeting on 29th September 2015 at Upper Kabete Conference Room. The Chairman Eng. Prof. A. N. Gitau was in-attendance. He reported that EBK has approved the program as Biosystems Engineering but the name of the department remains as Environmental and Biosystems Engineering. That the University of Nairobi is an ISO Certified Institution.
A collaborative initiative between Agricultural Engineering Services Directorate, State Department of Agriculture, and Department of Environmental and Biosystems Engineering, University of Nairobi. The research was conducted in two counties namely Machakos and Makueni.
The Department of EBE received students from Eldoret University, Department of Agricultural and Biosystem Engineering and Mechanical Engineering on 8th September, 2015.The purpose of the academic trip was to give the students a wide exposure to complement theory and practicals done during their studies.
The Seed Enterprise Management Institute (SEMIs) at CAVS with collaboration with EBE conducted international training courses on seed production from 10th – 15th August and on seed drying, processing and storage from 17th – 22nd August, 2015. The Department of EBE participated on this year's Nairobi Ploughing Competition that was held on 25th July, 2015 at Kanyiriri Farm (CAVS). The event was organised by the Agricultural Society of Kenya. Wilberforce Kipkoech and Eric Kibondori both 3rd year students were among the contestants. Wilberforce emerged 3rd in the disk plough categories.
The Secretariat of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP Secretariat) organised a joint stakeholders conference in Brussels, Belgium on 7th and 8th July 2015. The aim was "To bring together in a networking event, representatives of granted projects within the three programmes as well as other high level stakeholders in the ACP Group of States tertiary education and research sectors."

The project is aimed at solving a particular engineering problem, with the application of Engineering Sciences learnt during the course period.
